nFusion Creates Unique Client Message...in Song

November 9, 2011

nFusion was recently invited to share our insights on digital experiences and speak to the latest trends in the social space to the marketing department at General Mills. As a thank you we also brought along a special gift: the chance to win an original song written by an Austin musician (we live in the Live Music Capital or the World, after all).

Names were drawn, and the winner (an Assistant Integrated Communications Manager) chose to honor her father, a retired Lieutenant Colonel with an apparent fondness for Tequila. We approached the creation of the song the same way we approach any project -- by collaborating with our clients to do something honest, memorable and engaging. Robi Polgar of The Late Joys -- and nFusion's Copy Editor -- helped pen the tune, and the Colonel couldn't be happier. We're now proud to share "Gracie Lou" across the Internets. Cheers.

(Sitting on the Porch Singing Songs for) Gracie Lou

I grew up in small-town U.S. A.
Swore it wouldn’t get its hooks in me, I swore I’d get away
But I was young and did what young men do
I sat on the porch singing songs for Gracie Lou

I was going nowhere, I was getting there fast
So I hitched up with the army and I packed my bags
I hung up my guitar but I had something left to do
I headed to the porch to say goodbye to Gracie Lou

In a small town on some foreign shore
My doubts began to swell
But I was proud and followed all my orders
What they were I cannot tell
I found out quick, click after click,
Some things are better left unsaid
And I took a vow to silence all the
Voices in my head

It’s been a few years, I’ve finally settled down
Yeah, you’ll find me right here in my little old town
Shots of tequila ricochet around my brain
And I wonder if I’ll ever play that old guitar again

Life goes on, the memories fade
And while some stay as sharp as the moment that they’re made
I’m not looking back ’cos my guitar’s in tune
I’m heading to the porch to sing a song for Gracie Lou
I’m heading to the porch to sing a song for Gracie Lou
I’m sitting on the porch singing songs with Gracie Lou

Song credits and the real-life Gracie Lou (with her favorite toy).
